- Slip melting point still decides set after refining — the stearic-rich structure is not bleached away. Ask for the batch value on the COA rather than treating refining as a texture reset.
- Deodorised, low-FFA butter often feels cleaner and less nutty-waxy on skin; private-label fragrance systems can run a lighter load.
- A white anhydrous butter and a pastel lotion do not pick up seasonal ivory drift.
- Loading bands are unchanged (50–80 % anhydrous, 10–30 % rich creams, 5–15 % lotions); emulsifier advice is the same as for unrefined.
- Graininess is still polymorphism: the same melt-and-cool discipline applies to both types.
- If the brief needs a harder stick or bar, that is a kokum or cocoa question, not a refining question.
Private-label refill batches are where white refined shea earns its keep: an agreed colour band keeps a pastel cream on shade across lots, instead of chasing seasonal ivory. Fragrance-forward lotions can run a lighter fragrance load because there is no nutty base note to cover.
