One factory. Two grades. A full paper trail.

EMI Agro Industries Limited manufactures shea butter and sells what we produce. Wild-collected kernels from 5,000+ women collectors in Kwara, Niger, Kaduna and Kogi are cold-pressed, filtered, tested and packed at our plant in Moniya Industrial Zone, Ibadan, then exported directly. Every lot ships with a batch Certificate of Analysis tested to AOCS/ISO methods against NIS 571:2013.

Because we own the press, the lab and the packing line, you get the same specification on the fortieth tonne as on the first, a named person who can answer a technical question the same day, and a price that has no trader's margin in it.

Why buyers switch to a factory

Trading companies often fill orders with whatever lot they can buy that month; FFA, moisture and colour move with the source. We sell the shea butter we produce. The spec you approved on the trial lot is the spec on the container. Our collectors are paid directly and every batch traces back to its collection area.

From Tree to Container

Our 10-step quality process

EMI Agro Industries manufactures shea butter in Ibadan, Nigeria — from wild-collected shea nuts bought from women's cooperatives to packed drums on a Lagos-bound container. The ten steps below are the same sequence every lot follows. Nothing is traded in. Kernels come in; tested butter and press cake go out.

  1. 1

    Ethical sourcing

We buy from women's cooperatives in Kwara, Niger, Kaduna and Kogi — at the farm gate, not from a chain of traders.

Wild-collected shea nuts (Vitellaria paradoxa) come from Nigeria's shea belt through a cooperative network of 5,000+ women collectors. Buying at the farm gate is how we control dryness, handling and price. Quality is incentivised before the kernels ever reach Moniya.

  2. 2

    Strict inspection

Every intake lot is checked for moisture and defects. Rejected nuts do not enter production. Accepted lots get a batch code.

Each intake lot is inspected for moisture and visual defects. Rejected lots do not enter production. Accepted lots receive a batch code that follows the kernels through pressing, filtration, laboratory release and the Certificate of Analysis that travels with the shipment.

  3. 3

    Thorough cleaning

Stones, debris and dust are removed. Only clean kernels proceed.

Stones, husk, debris and dust are removed before the kernels are conditioned. Clean intake is what keeps grit out of the press and out of the finished unrefined Grade A shea butter.

  4. 4

    Gentle roasting

Kernels are conditioned at 45–50°C — enough to release the fat, not enough to refine it.

Kernels are conditioned at 45–50°C so they press cleanly. This is not the same as adding heat at the press. The low temperature is only enough to release the fat; unsaponifiables, colour and the classic shea odour that Grade A buyers specify stay intact.

  5. 5

    Cold pressing

Mechanical expeller pressing. No solvent. No heat added at the press.

Expeller pressing extracts the fat without solvents and without heat added during pressing. That is what cold-pressed, unrefined shea butter means on our specification: mechanical extraction only. The solid residue is shea press cake, sold separately for soap, feed and fertiliser.

  6. 6

    Double filtration

    First 200 microns, then 100 microns — export-clean Grade A without bleaching.

Crude butter is filtered twice — 200 microns, then 100 microns — to remove fines before laboratory release. Double filtration is how we get export-clean unrefined butter without bleaching or deodorising the Grade A lot.

  7. 7

    Laboratory testing

FFA, moisture, melting point and colour. Pass means a Certificate of Analysis.

Finished butter is tested in our Ibadan lab for free fatty acid (FFA), moisture, melting point and colour before a Certificate of Analysis is issued. A lot that misses spec does not pack. Peroxide value and identity parameters (saponification, iodine, unsaponifiable matter) are reported as specified on the order. Every shipment carries the COA for that batch.

  8. 8

    Proper packaging

Food-grade packs, seals, labels, batch codes and production dates.

Released butter is packed in food-grade 5 kg, 25 kg and 200 kg drums or 1000 L IBC tanks, sealed and labelled with batch codes and production dates. The same batch code on the drum is the batch code on the Certificate of Analysis.

  9. 9

    Climate storage

Held at 15–20°C, protected from light, until container loading.

Finished shea butter is held at 15–20°C, protected from light, until container loading. Cool, dark storage is how we keep peroxide value down. Rancidity risk starts with heat and light, not with the press.

  10. 10

    Export and shipping

COA, packing list and commercial documents; load at Apapa or Tin Can Island.

Each shipment leaves with a Certificate of Analysis, packing list and the commercial documents the destination requires, then loads at Apapa (Lagos) or Tin Can Island (Lagos). Quotes are EXW, FOB, CIF — the buyer chooses. Lead time is Ibadan production time plus ocean time to the named port. EMI Agro produces 40 tonnes per week of finished shea butter and can schedule rolling shipments. Exact weeks depend on the quantity on the purchase order.
