Shea Press Cake

Also written as: press cake, shea cake, shea nut cake, shea kernel cake, shea meal

Summary

Shea press cake is the solid residue left after shea kernels are mechanically pressed for butter: the crushed kernel fibre and protein with a portion of residual fat. It is a co-product used as fuel, soil amendment and, with treatment, an animal-feed ingredient.

Feed use requires treatment because raw shea cake carries anti-nutritional components such as saponins and tannins. It is the co-product of the unrefined Grade A shea butter line.
